Epilepsy
Epilepsy - a modern and Ayurvedic view of treatment
Epilepsy is a neurological disease characterized by recurrent seizures, which are the result of neuronal dysfunction of the brain. Symptoms may include sudden changes in consciousness, muscle spasms, twitching or uncontrolled body movements, loss of consciousness, and other neurological manifestations.
Causes of origin
Modern medicine identifies a number of causes of epilepsy, including genetic factors, traumatic brain injuries, brain infections, brain tumors or congenital brain abnormalities.
From the point of view of Ayurvedic medicine, epilepsy, also known as "Apasmara" in the Ayurvedic tradition, is considered a brain disorder associated with the disturbance of the flow of "Prana Vata", according to the concepts of Ayurveda. This Prana Vata is one of the subtypes of Vata dosha (energy principles) and is responsible for controlling the movement of the mind, nerves and muscles. If Prana Vata is disturbed, it can lead to the development of various neurological disorders, including epilepsy.
According to Ayurveda, epilepsy is the result of an imbalance in the tridosha - Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Vata, which is responsible for movement and communication, is considered a major factor in the development of epilepsy. Vata dosha imbalance can be caused by various factors such as improper diet and lifestyle, excessive stress, trauma or toxic components in the body.
The treatment of epilepsy from the point of view of Ayurveda focuses on restoring the balance of the tridosha and strengthening the nervous system. This is often achieved by using various herbs that have soothing and balancing properties for the Vata dosha.
